why do some fish just really freak out in one tank, but if you take em and toss em into a diff tank they just act like it is there home like have been there for a while?

i had this happen 3x
first was with a gourami that just spazzed in my old 55 gal tank (hiding in the top corner for days and not eating). but when i put him into my 38 gal he just started to swim around like it was his long lost home.

the 2nd time was with a four line pictis cat, it just would stay in one spot under the filter intake area and would not move, not even to eat. so i tossed him in to my turtle tank (figured that he was going to die, so why not give some food to the turts) but when the turtle bit him he spraing to life and ran off, then the next day he was eating the pellets in the tank and has been thriving in there ever sence.

the 3rd time was with a baby bichir (just happened)
i put him in my tank and he flipped and was trying to jump out as fast as he could (for about 5 min) then he stopped and went to the floor of the tank and just sat there, the next time i looked in the tank to see how he was doing, he was staying at the top of the water floating and not really moving and i thought he was dead so when i poked him he started to swim around but only at the top of the water, so after he had been doing that for about 2 hrs i decided to put him in one of my other tanks to see if he would get better, but as soon as he hit the water he started to act normal and was swiming around in the plants and just acting like a bichir should act.

anyone know why some fish act this way?

the water was all the same in all my fish tanks (about the same) but the water in my turtle tank was a bit harsh for fish.

like your idea on the fish talk thing though. would be cool to know what fish are thinking.

Bizarre? Did you compare water parameters between the tanks?

One day I'm going invent a fish translator that fits on the outside of the tank and translates everything your fish is thinking into english(or desired language of your choice) :D

They only think about 3 things.... feed me....give me some luv..... and I'm going to bite you now

this has happend to me as well with some african cichlids. It was very strange. There were about 15 of them all 3-4"+ Even after 3 weeks of settling in they were the most skittish fish I have ever kept and I have kept red bellies. The water in that tank is pristine. I have an emperor 400 and a wet dry running on the 55 gallon they were in. When I got rid of them to the pet store to make room for baby tigs and bichirs they were fine. Last time I went to the pet store I saw them in probably a 20 long or something and they were all fine. It makes no sense..
