Just wondering, any of you got those exceptional fish where most of the same species gets used to people within a fixed duration and that particular fish stills dash off when you come around?

I got this ornate bichir that still freaks out whenever I start feeding them. He basically jumped out of his black suit and turned all white whenever I open the lid. But when I go away, he starts to come to the front and bully all the other fishes like some big shot in the tank :screwy:. I heard from many other ornate bichir fishkeepers that their fish got used to them within a month. My ornate had been with me for 2.5 monthes already.

Then when I visited my LFS, they have ornate bichirs. But they don't freak out even when I tap on the glass of the tank. Guess my ornate was just born without guts... Any of you stumbled onto the same scenario before?

my ornate is a freak as well. Ive had him since mid october i believe and he still refuses to eat in front of me. I can almost stack massivore pellets on his head without him moving. If i move just far enough out of his sight range he will eat but not until im gone.

I had some Belonesox that used to be super skittish and ram their faces in the glass and try to jump out whenever they saw me. I had them for months before I sold them to my LFS. Now at the LFS, they come up to the glass and beg when they are hungry :irked:

Do you ever try to spot feed your bichir with a turkey baster? I spot feed everything that needs frozen stuff at work and most of the times the fish get used to me a lot faster.

I find that with my tank in a high traffic area of the house my fish are very responsive and not that skittish. This tank also includes a school of silver dollars which for many can be jumpy. Fish at the LFS probably see a lot of traffic and they just get used to it, so they are just less skittish.

Aha! So you are one of the glasstappers at the LFS's! No wonder your fish hide from you! j/k

Not really a glasstapper. I just gently use my fingers to touch the glass. Lemme rephrase it to "Tap gentlely"

I had a pair of carpintis vontehillo that were shy. The male more than the female. Didn't want to get rid of em cuz they were by far the prettiest fish I've owned. After a year went by, I couldn't stand it anymore and got rid of em. Went back to a single wetpet and got an Oscar.

my 18" ck is very skittish. with for a year and still freaks out when i come near the tank to feed or just to relax.

I have a 150 in the living room most of the fish in there I've only had for about a month there still a little skittish. I also have an adult male GT in there that I've had since he was a baby he rams the glass when he sees anyone stick you hand in the tank and its a different story. I also have a 75 gallon in the living room with an adult tiger oscar that I've had since he was a baby. He sort of bangs the glass when he sees people cleaning his tank is another story let's just say I now wear gloves.

Upstairs in the bedroom I have a 30 long with an adult female GT that I've had since a baby she's skittish and always has been. In the office I have a 55 with a single columbian shark thay I've had since babys had two but one died last week he was 14 inchs long 8 inchs around he was very skittish we don't go in there often. The one that's still alive isn't as bad. They know me better then anyone but still swim into the glass sometimes when I'm in there. My wife doesn't like going around the tank because they always freak out when she walks by.

I have a pair of blue gene jack dempseys that almost kill themselves because they shoot upwards and hit them selves on the glass like a billion times and they almost jump out of the tank
