Since you want lighter base fishes which you can see earlier, why not consider a Moonlight catfish. They are available every where lately and they look really nice in a pond.

@ elindra- def consider moonlight cat, also thinking of RTC or tigrinus. but will likely remove rocks before putting them in

@ rostratusgar- will follow up with pond pics. am running standard koi pond filtration setup, trimming off the kois once the cats are in to reduce bioload
