So theres a chance ill be setting up a 6x2 tank in a few months and the jardini has caught my eye. Now because I want to keep some other fish in this tank it seems as though the chance of a jar working are slim. Im just curious as to if a 6x2 tank would hold a jar for life. If I could keep a jar in this size tank, what tank mates would you guys recommend to TRY with the jar? I honestly dont care if i have a 1 fish tank but this tank is going into the living room and my rents are not too fond of jar's or any cool fish for that matter. I got more Q's that I cant think of at the moment but id appreciate if you guys could make me a bit more informed on this awesome fish.

firstly. a 6*2*2 tank can hold a jar for its whole life unless no tankmate with it!!!
they cant tolerate any tankmate that smaller than them!!!
u can mix them with sailfin pleco. they will work great.
i suggest that better no tankmate. they are a killling machine

The Jardini has a reputation for slaughtering their tank-mates. Their attitudes depend on the individual fish. I have a large Jar( over 20" and around 10lbs) that gets along with tank-mates. I have a 6' x 2' x 2' tank with the Jar, 2 tin foil barbs, 2 clown knives, black belt, and a large sailfin pleco. The tf barbs are to fast for the jar and the blackbelt is to smart for him(he has pvc to hide in). I love the jar--It's the closest we americans can get to an asian arowana.

Good luck,
Chris

don't say it too quickly, Chris. it will appear at first that the barbs are too quick for the jar, but if the jar later on decided to go after them, they can't be too quick to escape the jar's mouth 24/7 in an aquarium tank. i have bala sharks with my jar but they lasted for only about 18 months. even my 10"-12" plecos weren't safe. but my jar is a very mean one and is now alone. i hope yours is not. good luck on the comm though.

OP: that tank size is fine for housing a jar. you'd have to try out different tank mates for this aro to find out if it'd work or not. just be prepared to give them away if the jar doesn't like them, unless you have a way to keep them of course. read up the sticky on jar's tank mates for more info. i came to keeping my jar knowing the probability of having no tank mates for him is very high. i still love my jardini. good luck.

Man I love this fish! It makes me sad to know that I probably cant keep one though ! Just out of my own curiosity has anybody ever tried 2 jars together? Would the aggression cancel out or would they just kill each other?

i say jardini with some endli bichirs :D
