I posted the question earlier about how big my Discus should be before adding them to my 240 gallon containing my 14+" ARO.
Well I asked the crew at WetWebMedia the same question. Their reply was not to combine the two species at all and that my Silver ARO should be housed in an aquarium measuring at least 5' by 9'.
So I have 3 questions for you guys.
1) Who out there has mixed Discus with their ARO(s)
2)What sizes are they(Discus & ARO)
3)What size tank are you guys keeping your Silver AROs in?
Pictures?

Thanks

I have kept discus and and arowana together.

I had juvie discus and juvie silver together briefly. When I kept the black aro with discus it was 14-16" long and the discus were 5".

Currently my 2 silver aros and black aro are in a 450g tank. I no longer keep discus.

They got along fine. the aro never payed much attention to the discus. I did have a pair of discus that would try to fend of the aro if it came near their eggs.

i think the problem most people have, is that in general, discus will have problems competing for food. I honestly think that silvers are to docile to mess with them unless they are small enough to eat.

I never kept a discus, but i would try to buy a discus that is larger then the aros, because the aro will quickly outgrow almost every tankmate

Thanks guys. I thought I was going to have to sell the arowana, but based on what you guys have said here, it sounds like everything will be fine.

I have a 20" Black Aro with six 4" to 5" Angles (not Discus but similar). Every one seems to be happy. It gets dicy when I'm feeding silver sides to the Aro and an Angle comes over to investigate. The Aro just swings by with the mouth wide open, so far the Angles get out of his way. Other than that they seem to stay away from each other.

Don't do it on my replies. I already told you in your other posts that it shouldn't be done unless you have adult discus. Your juvies are going to end up stunted if you mix them with an aro at there current size. So if you will be happy with your discus just growing to 4.5-5" then do it. If you are wanting full grown 6-7" discus then you need to do something else.
