I posted the question earlier about how big my Discus should be before adding them to my 240 gallon containing my 14+" ARO.
Well I asked the crew at WetWebMedia the same question. Their reply was not to combine the two species at all and that my Silver ARO should be housed in an aquarium measuring at least 5' by 9'.
So I have 3 questions for you guys.
1) Who out there has mixed Discus with their ARO(s)
2)What sizes are they(Discus & ARO)
3)What size tank are you guys keeping your Silver AROs in?
Pictures?

Thanks

1. There are a handful of people on here that have tried it. From what I remember done in the right size tank it worked well. (Don't quote me on that though:D)

In your case it depends on your fish's attitude. Is it a mellow aro or is he very active as this could upset the discus a bit. Also with regards to size, in my OPINION I would say if your aro is 14"+ then discus which are at least 4" TL should be fine.

How many discus are you adding?
Will there be any other tankmates?
I would also think about treating the aro for any internal parasites that may be harmful to the discus.

My 2c hope it helps a bit.

i have a 14inch jar arrow with ten large discus with no trouble for while just got make sure u feed arrow a ton so he does not get any ideas smallest discus about 4inch other are 6 threw 10 inchs in a 300g tank since they school arrow does not really mind them

I wouldn't chance it. Discus and Aros aren't a cheap fish, but that's just my o2............

I just started my my project about three months ago. I got a jar and 10 discus. The jar was about four or five inches when i got him and hes about eight now and my discus range from 3-6'' they all get along great. I also have 20 indo dats, 1 silver dat, 2 thin bars, 2 archer fish and 3 tiger barbs in there. No body gets eaten and they all hang out. The dats punk some of the fish but all ways leave the discus alone. You should be fine

i wouldn't try that coz u don't want ur discus to be dead or eaten up and i have a 7-8 inch aro and 4 3-4 inch discus

I just put a 4" Jardi in my 180 planted Discus angel tank. He and the discus completely ignore eachother. My large Male Boesmani rainbow however seems to be courting the Jar, he never leaves his side, its actually commical. I have only seen the Jar nip at My pinktail Chalceus a couple times, but only because the pink grabs the food before the jar knows its there.....So far, so good.

I'll be real interested to see what happens when your jar gets to be 9-10"

so far, still good. The jar has started beating up on the boesmani, but the rainbow still antagonizes him....other than that, just a few tetras missing. Still no interatction with the discus and angels
