Just picked up 5 koi from my lfs for $4.99 each. Apparently a local guy has been bringing them in for store credit to use on dog food, cat food, and bird seed.
The biggest is about 5", the smallest is about 3.5", I think. I'm reeeeeeally hoping that they are too big for my gar to think they can eat them. Just to be safe, I tossed about 50-60 feeder comets in the pond for them to snack on. Fortunately the water temp is still low enough (~54F) that the gar haven't started to feed yet, though they have started getting a little more active.
What's really cool, is that my guy at the lfs said this guy trading fish in, also has some 12-16" koi that he'll be bringing in soon to trade in as well. My guy at the lfs said he'd give me the same price on those, $4.99 each
. Looks like I may be getting some monster koi for real cheap soon...
