just picked up my latest community fish

they are a breed of australian rainbow fish, not sure of the exact one but will find that out if anyone needs

while they are still small i have already been able to identify and sex the male from the females

where this thread comes into handy is i really would like to try breeding these, does anyone know if these fish are livebearers or egg layers, what kind of tank do i need setup for them, right now they will not breed i am sure as they are in a community tank with 30 other fish, but setting something up for them would not be hard to do...any ideas?

Hi there i have heaps of rainbows and they are all pretty much breed the same.

All you need is a heavily planted tank or a planted pond. And they are egg layers.

Cheers i hope helped a little

I would say rainbows are a little more complicated than that. I have a community 30 that I have 10 Boesmani rainbows in. I would definetly say a 55 or 75 would be better. These fish like to be in large schools in order to be happiest. I have mine in with a school of 25 Black neon tetras. 4 Clown Loaches and a a couple of corys. I feed mine Omega One Super Color Flakes, and they are looking amazing.

they are boesmani, went back to the store to find out

i am setting up a 40 gal tall right now

it will be planted, and i am hoping to only have those guys in there, i have confirmed 1 male and 2 females

should i move all 3 of them into there, they are still relatively young as well, but the color is really coming through on them and the male glistens in the morning, which another person told me shuld be a sign of maturity

Hi there again

I have my 4 bosmani in a 110 litre tank, i have 1 male and 3 females, the ph at 7 and it's planted.

All rainbows breed when they are pretty small, my bosmani started when they got to about 5.5cm. Males have the orange and blue but the females have only the blue and they are alot smaller than the males.

that definitely sounds like mine

will they breed with a 1:1 ratio or is the 1:2 okay, i figured since the male had the chance for pimping it, it was okay

the tank however, is being set up hopefully before the weekend, so the fish wont be in till at least saturday
