I think Ive solved the planted tank and big fish equation. Alot of trial and error, a couple hundred dollars in bad livestock purchases, and now Im done. The dream team in this tank are:
1 silver aro. 10''
1 pike(c. sveni-8'')...the predators

1 common plec-5''
1 Royal plec-6''
2 flagtail prochilodus..the janitors

1 rafael cat-5''....the scavenger

Now nothing left to do but maintenance and feeding. Starting another big planted pike tank as we speak. Pics arent the best but Im still learning.

Looks good, will look even better as the plants fill in. Just watch out for some of the plants like anachris, if they start picking at it, it will come apart and clog your filters. Look forward to updates.

Not running C02. All plants are low light, no c02 required. I am using 2 emperer 400 power filters, a 400 gph powerhead with particulate filter attachment, and a 9 watt-200 gph UV clarifier. For lighting I am using T5 power compacts with around 1 1/2 watts per gallon, and the plants are growing great.

I really like your tank. I don't use co2 either, and my plants look great.

Ditch the UV. It is actually robbing your plants of many micro nutrients they need for healthy growth. Also, soon your swords will die back. Don't fret, they will grow back in their submersed variety of leaves. Although your plants don't require co2 injection, they still need co2. The surface agitation of the emp 400s will drop what little you have in there produced by the fish to none. The growth will be very slow. What type of lighting do you have NO T5, HO T5 or power compact? WPG is a type of rating only meant to be used with power compact fluorescents.

looks good. i thought the wpg was ment for t12 bulbs when it started. CF is just a bent T5 and both are more efficient then the t12.
Actually, you are right, it was the T12 originally, but it was also used for the CF.
