Got off my butt this morning and learnt how to post pics. Wanted to share a few pics of my pond that was finished earlier this year.

The pond consists of two mountains. The big mountain is 12 feet tall and has a waterfall which has it's flow diverted into two. The left flow comes down a replica mountain stream, and the right flow enters a growout pond 8ft in diameter.

Dimensions of the main pond: about 15 metres long, 7 m wide, and at its deepest point, 1.6 m deep (abit over 5ft)

As a reference, the green fence is abit over 6 ft tall.

Below is main mountain with the waterfall.

The growout pond to the. I had over 200 baby koi in here, but thanks to a couple of persistant herons, now only have 10 left.:swear: :swear:

In hindsight, I should have made it deeper than 1.5 foot to stop the bloody birds from picking off the koi. Wish our gun laws were as lenient as over in the US, there would be a couple of less herons around.

The filter. 6 drums-the fence in the background is 6 ft tall as reference. There are two UV lights installed. Keeps the water clear of green water, but lately, having problems with string algae growing in the growout pond (depth too shallow maybe?)

The inhabitants.

About 60 koi and a long neck turtle.

If I could find an economic way of heating the pond in winter, my 2 alligator gars, barra and red tail catfish are going in there. Maybe an arapaima as well.

As a rough estimate (hard because of the varying depth), the pond holds 75 000 litres (about 20000 gallons?)

That is a sweet set up! where about do you live?

Never mind.. I see your an ausi. How cold does it get that you need heaters for that setup?

As you can see from the state of the backyard, I got my priorities right - worry about the pond/fish first, and landscape the yard around it.:)

Now to start on the landscaping *sigh*:(
