I am considering getting some potted plants to place roots hanging into back of tank with plants out of water. Any suggestions about which plants will work? Also taking into consideration that there is no natural light in this room.
Is this possible?

You could try Potho's but a clamp on light fixture with a plant bulb may be needed.

Can be done but you need decent light, some cheap LED bulbs should work. :)

Go and get yourself a nice house plant because there isn’t anything I’ve found yet that can’t have it’s roots in a fish tank.

I've currently got pothos, sweet potato vine, vinca vine, and another plant my wife picked up for the flower box outside red and green speckeled leaves growing out the top of my sump. I put them in net pots with aquaponics grow medium so its inert ,or in the shower caddies you can get from wally world that use suction cups to hold on to the shower walls. I've also used some pieces of wire to loop through the pots to hold them on the tank edge. I used standard home wiring wire and left the rubber coating on so the copper isnt in the water. Peace lily works well too as do quite a lot of plants actually. I agree you will need a light.

I have pothos and arrowhead plant in my tanks. Arrowhead doesn’t grow as well as pothos, but will still grow.
No matter what you choose to grow you will need a light as mentioned above.

Cactus are some of the only non aquatic plants I haven’t (yet) killed.

Then you have a better green thumb then me. Lol
I have a lot of house plants, but that poor cactus only made it 8 or so months before it died. I still miss it.
