hi guys just want to ask some questions about pbass feeding non live food.

-what is the best size for cichlas to train for non live food?(because they say that it is good for juvy pbass to feed live food when young for them to grow fast)

-what is the best nonlive food?(pellet, shrimp, krills, etc)

i have 12 and 11incher orinocensis and 11incher ocellaris and i'm having a hard time to train them eat shrimps. it is already a week and they still dont eat:(

can you help me guys.. thanks a lot.. happy fish keeping

I read this on MFK and it worked for me as my 4 orino's are under 6" and all eat shrimp and 2 of them will eat pellets. The idea is that you first train them to attack whatever hits the waters surface by throwing in feeders one at a time versus dumping a bag of feeders in. They will quickly learn that whatever hits the waters surface is food, next you throw in some shrimp every few feeders and they will attack them just as they do the feeders, they may spit them out but at least they are putting them in their mouths. Keep this up and eventually they won't spit out the shrimp and will eat it. Next try the same thing with pellets, I used Hikari food sticks they are long and skinny and look more like the food they have been eating than a typical round pellet. It's been a few months and only 2 of them will eat pellets but n ow they eat any pellet even sinking and those 2 have a lot more color and are growing faster than the 2 that only eat shrimp, part of this is I feed pellets every day but shrimp only a few times a week. It takes time but if you are patient they will eat whatever you feed them. Good luck
