Recently I was fortunate enough to be given two Eheim filters along with a 75 tank. The filters are a 2026 and a 2126. Now I have never had any filters like these and I'm not really sure how to maintain them. How often should I be cleaning them and change out the stuff inside? Any advice on these would be greatly appreciated.

The filter pads should be cleaned once every couple months, and changed every 6 months or so. The medias inside, assuming that they are ehfimech and ehfisubstrat pro (stock medias for eheim filters), then you never need to replace them, and don't need to rinse them out, but can in tank water.

The pro 2 models are very good filters, however, the pro 3e and classic lines still out do the pro 2 models.

How do you like your Eheim 2026? I was thinking of picking up a brand new one for $165.

As far as I can tell they works great. They(2026 & 2126) keep my water really clear with a lot of fish.

When I set mine up I couldn't get them to prime with the big button on the top. It would push down with no problems but would come up at such a slow rate that it wouldn't pull with enough suction. I ended up having to prime them in an unorthodox way. If you bought one new I'm sure you wouldn't have any problems.

I have numerous eheims, 2213, 2217, 2260, Pro II 2026. I personally prefer the classic canisters over all the rest. No priming required after initial setup, easily backflushed, next to zero maint. and they hold more media.

I heard the pro 2 is easier to prime than the other models. Can you confirm this?
I don't like priming units in general. They are all just another thing to have break. I just use the eheim upgrade return kit 2. This avoids the need for priming any filter.
