Do angelfish tend to jump?

Is the way lupin describes sexing angelfish in the profiles sticky only applicable when that species of angelfish is sexually mature or can it be used on angelfish quarter sized?

Would I be able to keep four anglfish, if a pair formed in my 45 gallon long?

Also is a male betta compatable with angelfish?

My angel fish attempt to jump, but vear off at the water surface. Never had one jump.

I think that to accuatrly sex an angel fish it has so be sexually mature. I think that the only sure way to tell the sex is when they are breeding.

Putting 4 in a 45g is a bit of a gamble. I have four in my 75g, three of them get along, but the 4 is always picked on. It also depends on how high the 45g is. Angel fish like tall tanks because of how tall there bodys are. The tank should always be 2 times the angels height. I think that anything smaller would stunt them...

As for the Betta, I'm not sure.

Hope that helps out a little bit.

The 45 gallon long has an 18 inche high 48 inche long 12 inche wide water column. Ill stick some netting over the top of my tank, don't want to loose an angel.

Still would like more answers and view points
thanks

also can anyone reccommend some good book or books on angelfish thanks.

Hi, seeing as your tank is 4' long I reckon you could go with four no problem as long as you 'help' them. Buy them together at the same size and let them grow up together. Also use tall visual barriers in your tank to break line of sight. I found driftwood sticking out the top of the water and tall plants (fake or real) a good choice.

The thing is, if one becomes a problem you could always remove it but I doubt you will have to.

As for sexing, it is nigh impossible to sex them unless you catch them in the act. You can believe what Lupin has written as he knows his stuff and yes, with a certain degree of success some mature angels can be sex while not actually spawning but you pretty much need to be a pro.

I have never had an angel jump from a tank and really like the look of an open top angel tank.

I have never tried a betta with angels so can't help you there sorry.

all fish can jump but most tend not to, my cichlids jump to get moths that are sitting on top of the lids when they are hungry and also sometimes do the same at feeding time.
