So this past weekend i have had 2 filters fail on me. One being just a pump thats for a sump. The other was an ehiem 2216.

Im a bit tight on money right now and had to think of something to keep the filtration going. So here is what i came up with. Keep in mind i spent 0$ and it took me about 25 minutes to do both.

They both work great though.

Picture 1 is the old ehiem 2216 that was used to filter my turtle tank. The impellor was damaged so i removed the lid. Reversed all the media and put a powerhead on the bottom fitting to the canister and placed it all inside the tank. It overflows the canister and back into the tank. The powerhead is burred under rocks to hide it.

2nd and 3rd pic are in my African cichlid 40g tank. It has a .75" overflow to a 5g pail with media and sponge pads for filtration. But the return pump quit on me. So i had to use what i had laying around. I took another spare powerhead and took my old syphon hose. Put a spong pad in and aquarium gravel then another sponge pad to hold it in on the other side.

Both have been up and running for 4 days now and work great.

Let me kno what you guys think.

Nothing beats ingenuity. Good job at averting problems with some quick thinking.

Thank you sir! The ehiem 2216 is actually good enough where im going to keep it running. Its in a turtle tank and has to get cleaned every week. The open top and handle make that a breeze. Also it tells you when it needs a cleaning.. The media basket starts to float :) really impressed with it
