uhm,...since bichirs are nocturnal,do they also breed at night?..how would you know that a female bichir is gravid and ready to breed?

also, can anyone post a photo of how bichir(senegalus to be specific) eggs look like?and a video of bichir would be really great.:)

My Senegals spawn during daylight hours, I have tried to post pics of fry here but for some reason I can't do it

can you help me breed mine?what was your set-up?how did you "enticed" them to spawn?..i know there are already some info here in the site regarding breeding polypterus, but nothing beats infos from those with experience.thank you.:)

My breeding tank is 36" x !8" X 18" they are fed on beef heart earthworms guppies and pellets, the water is soft it doesn't register on test kits, the ph is 7.2 I use a plastic grass mat 12" x 12" for them to spawn in. Spawning lasts about 2 days, the pair spawn every 2 weeks. I remove the mats and put them into a small tank to hatch the eggs, when the fry are free swimming I feed them on baby brine shrimp.
Yesterday I found 2 1" babys in the tank with the parents, they would have been left with the parents when I last collected eggs in may. I don't collect all the spawns because of the tank space required to raise them. A few months ago I put the parents in a 24" x 10" x 12" to stop them from spawning so that the female could have a rest, they spawned 2 days later.
I would love to show some pics but I still can't post on this forum

I managed to get a pic of an egg today but I still can't post here.:irked: Received a notification that I can't post pics until I have done 25 posts.
Send me a pm with your email and I'll send it to you
