If you have access to filter media from an established tank, put it in your filters. If not, do a search on this site on fishless cycling.

Yes.. swap PART of the media from your established filters with some stuff from the new ones. (You dont want to take all the cycled media from your old filter or it wont work any more).

Put that in the new filters, and add a few fish to the new tank at that time. If your filter has 1/4 precycled media then it can support approx 1/4 the amount of fish right away. It wont be fully cycled, but it will be jump started and avoid that critical first 2 weeks when there are Zero bacteria in the filters.

Your old filter will still be running at 3/4 capacity, and will recover in a couple of days.

Then just gradually build up the fish numbers in the new tank over 4-6 weeks as the bacteria multiply.

i have the exact same set-up as u a 75 with the aq110's its been running for a week or so with some biomedia from my buddies tank and it seemes to be going good. If you don't know anyone who has some biomedia you could try your LFS and see if they will give/sell you a small bag.

Regarding a medium from an established source...

I don't have access to any medium from a tropical tank. But I have a well established garden pond, would it be safe/beneficial to use some of the water/medium from there? To get my cycle started?

It's easy to forget that some people survive in the world without 15 tanks....

LOL The water really wont do you a lot of good and it's difficult to transfur BB (benificial bacteria) from a pond to an aquarium unless you use the same sort of bio-media.

Argh Mr.Wolf...

This is going to be taxing... All my equipment came from people who'd quit keeping fish or have upgraded etc.. So my equipment is 2nd hand I'm not even sure what the specification of the pumps and things are. I'm going to go and search for make/model numbers to try and be able to give you some idea what I have.

I'll post back later with the info ok.

Thanks :)

Keep in mind that you only establish as much nitrifying bacteria as ammonia being released into the tank on a consistent basis..

If you throw in a bunch of established media and then don't add anything to feed it, it will die off the longer you let the tank go uninhabited..

This is a good reason to add stock slowly, no matter how 'cycled' you think your tank is..
