I recently posted a vid of my umbee in the video lounge and a lot of people thought that my supposed female fish is in fact a male. After spending a few days comparing photos and reading I'm starting to agree with them. Here is the video for reference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whh6SvJTXRM

If he is a male though then should I be concerned about him? He's not very beefy and he doesn't have a noticeable hump. He also hasn't grown any in the two and half months that I've had him. He was 11.5 inches TL when I brought him home. His tank is a 120 long which would of been fine for life if he'd been a female but will now be upgraded to a 250 when/if he outgrows the 120. At the size he is now though I think his tank is adequately sized particularly with the 50% water changes that I do every week. He eats like a champ with no stringy white poo. He's also not aggressive at all. There is no headbanging and although he will come to see you when you approach the tank he's begging for food and not defending his territory. I've fed him convict fry before and it took him a week to take them out. He was afraid of them when I first put them in the tank. Is this just his age showing or something else? Is there a such thing as the runt of the litter in fish lol. I want to do right by him even though I had no intentions of ever owning a fish that could get this large. Again I was assured when I picked him up that he was a female and reaching the end limit of his growth. I'm still not 100 hundred percent convinced that he is a male but he does seem to have an awful lot of identical twins running around here wooing the lady fishes :naughty:
