I wouldn't encourage a fish into live foods. If you do want to try live foods, make sure to quarantine them first before you feed them. There is always a high potential risk of introducing parasites that can prove detrimental to the health of your fish. Be patient and allow your fish to be accustomed to commercial foods. This is much easier than trying live foods and in the long run, end up into health issues.

o.k. they have been on live already i just ran out, originally i did not want to feed live foods. but the bass were thin with sunken belles and would not eat so i feed minnows for the past 3 weeks. so i will just be patient with him.

There are safer alternatives, mate. Try the frozen bloodworms and smelts. You can always buy Kent's liquid garlic and smear the dried foods with three drops of it to encourage your fish to eat them.

I agree these should reward you with some success. I personally feel that Cichla must have live to thrive to there full potential. Can you imagine how much frozen food you will have to use just get them to eat when you can sustain there health requirement's with three good feeding's of feeder's a day? Give the frozen a try first and hopefully it work's out. If it doesn't please get some feeders for your Cichla. It's hard enough loosing them to disease but to see them starve is even worse. Creates more problem's and headach's then there need's to be.

Also try feeding the blood worms to the feeder while acclimating them as well as pellet's to the feeders i would try to feed the Cichla 5 times a day at least 3 times a day. This way when the Cichla are eating the feeder's then they can get the best of both food sources. I also feed Blood Worms at the same time to my 2'' Cichla to get them to recognize this as food and keeps them interested in eating them. Down the road you can cut back more and more on the feeder's and then really try to transition them over to cut up shrimp or as Lupin said smelts, and I would also suggest tilapia. Good Luck bro and Welcome to the world of Cichla.

Very nice cichla.. and yeh.. do what High City said ;)
