My 3 bichirs spend a lot of time hiding and as such aren't very visible.
My freshwater butterfly fish might as well not even be in the tank since it sits at the surface near the back, the tank is covered and the top is below eyelevel, it's black and so is the background. Once it gets as big as it'll get, I'll probably throw it in the turtle tank and see if it can avoid them for long enough that they'll get bored.
So, I'm looking for a fish that will be active, visible, eye candy. Preferably one that will hang out in the mid strata of the tank, rather than hiding most of the time in the rocks, plants, and driftwood.
So to summarize, here are the criteria:
1. active, mid strata fish.
2. compatible with the smaller (9-14") polypterus (bichir) species.
3. compatible with freshwater butterfly fish.
4. 75 gallon tank for life
5. i would prefer african congo river basin fish. doesn't have to be though.
