Ok, this guy is currently about 4" now and seems very happy and very active, well just like normal. Anyhow, I got up this morning and watched him for a bit. There was a big bump on his right side and on his other side looks to be an open sore. Can someone please ID this for me?

He feeding on frozen shrimp as of now.

Please help, how do I treat this? and what can I do?

Thanks in advance!!

What are your water parms? What are his tank mates?

I suspect the bulge could be due to internal infection of some kind. The "sore" looks simply like the result of a physical injury though. I would definitely add some salt and increase the temperature to 80F or more, to stimulate the immune system. Is he still eating?

He's still eating like a pig, he has no tank mates. ph is at 7 and thats all I know. He is housed in a 20g long by himself.

How do I treat an internal infection?

With sores like that, I've got to know what the other tank mates are.

What kind a aggression are you noticing? Any sharp rocks in that tank?

Epsom salts (mainly magnesium sulphate), available from your local fish shop or pharmacy. But before you add any medication (apart from salt; I would add salt right away), you need to ascertain if it is indeed an internal infection, and I really can't be sure. But since he's eating, I wouldn't worry too much. Usually when fish get internal infections they simply stop feeding.

He has a normal wolf fish attitude, there are no sharp rocks, or really no rocks at all just black sand.

If there are no tank mates, no sharp rocks, nothing in the tank to do this...I would have to guess water conditions. I would say it isn't internal if he is eating, most internal things cause them to stop eating.

My suggestion would be first off, if all you know is the pH, that is the least of your conserns when it comes to water parms, a water test kit...could easily be from high ammonia, nitrates, nitrites...do water changes and keep up with them.

So I would say up the temp, test the water (Nitrates, Nitrites, Ammonia-biggest concerns), do a water change, keep up with them and see how he does.

Good luck :)
