Don't worry this has nothing to do with hybrids,

First off red devils will not fit in a 55 for any length of time same goes for dovis, both fish will need a tank that is at least 24" wide.

I have read alot of posts lately that suggested putting fish that grow very large in small aquariums. So I felt that this thread might be usefull to people If we can get some accurate information on max growth rates of fish you have personal experience with, and the tank recomendations they will need as they reach maturity.

I think it is a little harsh to say that they can't be put in a 55 for any length of time. A 55 would actually be a good grow out tank for a RD or a dovii, which I have actually done myself.

A 55 just isn't a suitible sized tank for an adult.

I agree any fish can be put in a 55 grow out from a certin period of time

If you have a 55 Gal as a grow out tank, you should be in more than great shape!

A juvi in a 55 gal grow out = happy fish........:grinno:

not 55 grow outs juvis in a 1 galon tank tho........

Where does the width of 24" come from? I don't see that as a necessity. A standard 125g is only 18.5 inches wide. A 24in wide tank would suggest that for one dovii or one red devil a 180 gallon tank is necessary. (which in some cases is true) I agree that sometimes the 55g minimum is not adequate, but for so many the colors are not black and white, it is hard to say rules are rules.

good coz you was not right saying Dogs came from the wolf and was not cross breed's, modern day dogs came from a mix of breeds/types of wolfs

North American Wolf

Chinese Wolf

Indain Wolf

Asian Wolf

European Wolf

these were Crossed to get the dogs of today, and im sure there was more in the mix to.

why pick these 2 fish?
i dont think i'v ever seen any thread that said a Dovii would be good 4 life in a 55G
And im sure a Dovii, RD, GT, RT, Pbass, Red Snakehead, Oscar, TSN, red tail cat any fish would fit in a 55G, as long as it is small enough, it don't matter what type/breed/SP or mix of fish it is a 2inch fish is a 2 inch fish, i'v never seen a LFS that has babby RD or Dovii in stoch held in a 55+G tank:screwy:

rd's don't need more than 18" width in a tank, but they do need more than 12" of a 55, but dovii definetly do need 24" though, and i belive (or hope) that the person who posted that just was given some wrong info, and relizes he was mistaken.
