Well, see, all it does is remove algae from the water, and does not do much in the way of bio filtration. And if you have a lot of live rock in salt water then algae shouldn't be much of a problem since it eats up most of the nutrients algae needs.

But... you don't really need it, you beneficial bacteria in freshwater will out compete the algae.

But bb doesn't stop algea. the purpose of this is to give the algea to grow on the screen instead of in the tank itself.
