I'm gonna go ahead and post this here cuz SA/CA cichlids is what I keep in my tank.
So for the first time I have aquatic plants that didn't die and mess my water within the first week, but the amazon swords are being eaten by something and I can't figure out what. I've been noticing small holes in the green leaves that seem to multiply overnight... during the day when I'm watching nothing happens.
they've been appearing on more and more leaves since the day I put the plants in there... so the possible culprits are
- Salvini
- Blue Acara
- Freshwater Prawn
- Clown Loaches
- Gold Mystery Snails
I have never seen any of the fish even nip at the leaves, they mostly just use them for cover and I keep them very well fed with pellets, worms, live shrimp, etc.
The prawns on the other hand... I see them ON the plants all the time but when I look closely they seem to be eating debris out of the roots/leaves, not the plant itself.
The snails, I was told they only eat decaying plants but these are far from decaying... the problem is I can't keep track of snails because they're so slow, and mine seem to sleep all day and start moving right when turn off the lights.
I'd appreciate some help so I can remove whatever is doing the damage before they leave me with a desert tank again.
Take a look:
