Im having problems with my tank. My water parameters are 20 ppm of nitrate, no nitrite, ph 6, GH 0, and KH 0.

I have in a 55 gallon tank, 2 plecos, 4 silver dollars, 3 dempseys, 2 ebjds, 2 datnoids, 1 synodontis. All are still small.

These days, Ive increased my water change percentage and started to use Prime.

However, my fish keep freaking out! after the death of one ebjd, another one looks like its in the "about to die" mood:cry: . It sticks to the floor. THe silver dollars dont move they just float motionlessly, looking as if they were shocked.

All my other fish are underneath rocks, and the synodontis is motionless as well.

WHat is wrong?!?!:nilly: :nilly: In my tank, ive got a bunch of rocks from the beach, some fake plants, a porcelian log, and a rena filstar xp2 canister.

Could the rocks from the beach have anything to do with the water problems? I tried to clean them with cold water when I brought em home.

PLease help!

P.S. I know Im overstocked but they are still small and ive got a bigger tank coming in soon.

Your problem probably lies in your GH and KH and pH. You have very dangerous levels of both KH and GH. Do you use pure RO water?

Reverse osmosis. It is a way of removing ions from water. With your GH and KH readings at 0, your pH must be very unstable.
Do you use city water? Or do you have some kind of filter set up for your home water?

Also do you usually run your tank that low in level? Usually when I see tanks like that it means they are not very well maintained. Please list your usual maintanance procedures, water change frequency and volume, etc.

I just use regular tap water from my sink. THis is how i do water changes...
1) take python hose, drain out 15 gallons of water from tank while gravel cleaning
2) then throw that water out, fill up my 5 gallon home depot bucket 3 times, adding a half capful prime, and dump that into the tank. Done.

I do water changes once a week.. every friday preferably

Yes.. ive been told that my ph is very unstable which is true...

So how do i fix it?

not sure about your other problems but the nitrate is probablty because of the plecos. and you should get some dechlorifier(spelling) for the new water. not just prime.

Prime is a dechlorinator.

richard,

Have your LFS test your water. Your GH and KH should not be 0 if you are using tap water.
