My three inch redcap oranda has something under its gill plate. There seem to be two little balls, light red in color, growing under the gill plate (perhaps even on the gill tissue, I can't get a good look). I looked through the stickies on diseases and couldn't find one that matched what I'm seeing. Fish is swimming normally, eating enthusiastically, not gasping for breath, seems to be otherwise perfectly normal. I noticed just last night, when she was facing away from me, that there was something under the gill plate. I've had this fish since Dec. 7 of last year. In none of that time have I noticed any change in behavior.

Ammonia, 0.
Nitrite, 0.
Nitrate, 10ppm.
pH, 7.5.
GH, 11.
KH, 5.
Temp: 72F.

No one's seen this? I'm hoping it's something benign... although they do seem like they would be tumors to me. Sorry I can't get any pics up, my camera is broken, and even if it worked, my USB ports are broken too. :irked: Everything I own is rubbish.

How do they feel when you gently touch them? Sound like tumors to me but if they grow at a rapid rate near the gill plates, this might actually kill your fish as it can impede their respiration process.

They're soft and squishy to the touch. And they're definitely on the gill tissue, I just checked. I lifted the gill plate, and there were three, right on the edge of the gill tissue.

I'll try to get a picture in a few hours' time. I think my brother might have a camera, and his USB ports definitely work.

Sorry I was never able to get pics up, but two of the three have fallen off (and knowing goldfish, either the oranda, or another one, ate them). There's only one tiny one left, and I'm hoping it'll fall off too.
