I went to a LFS yesterday that I never go to as they are mostly salt and have very little FW to ask if they would help me ship a ray since they also whole sale regionally.

Anyhow, natuturally we got to talking about rays and the employee showed me a scar on his hand. He told me a leo tagged him. I asked him where he was in contact with a leo and he said at this shop! Its a fairly new store and I was really surprised with the ban and all and I asked when, and he said last November. Of course I asked how much they sold it for......are you ready for this.....$150!!! It was a 10-12" mature male! He said he knew how much they were worth but since one of their salt costumers just dropped it off cause it ate his cory cats and the biggest tank they had was a 55gallon they let it go for CHEAP! I was sick! Needless to say, point is, deals can still be found, just got to be at the right place at the right time I guess. :(
 
Put your name on their "will automatically buy any leo" list!!!
 
Find out who got it and offer more money for it.
 
Was it a Freshwater or Saltwater ray? I'm not too educated with rays, but if it was a saltwater then why was it with cory's?

I also said to give me the guy who bought it contact info. He said he would next time he comes in but that he really doubts he will sell it as he bought a huge custom tank and built his basement baisically around the ray, but money talks...too bad I dont have too much!

****, just two months ago I missed a male leo for $600 and on the same day missed a 12" widebar for $100 by just minutes! The dude that bought the wide bar was still in the store shopping, and I offered him $250 on the spot and he turned it down. Mind you had not even had the fish bagged up yet! :irked:
 
Wow, why doesnt my pet shop get deals like that!!!

Sounds like you need to camp out at your shop...lol
 
I wont lie, I have had some good deals and I think it is cause no one in my town will pay more then like $50 for a fish so the store have a hard time moving high dollar fish, and they are mostly trade ins.

Some good deals Ive had are; 12" ornate bichir for $20, 5" Motoro for $36, I have maybe $100 in all the dats Ive owned and Ive owned over 25, and I once passed on a 10" Rhom and 10" P. Caribe for $25 each. Nothing like a $150 leo though, shoot when I heard about the six-hundred dollar leo I was planning to make the 4 hour drive one ray right then!
 
I bought an 8 inch blue eyed pleco last year for 40.

Sold it to someone in Hawaii for $900 and I betcha now I could have gotten more!
