As morbid as it sounds our unexpected and sudden possible demise from this world, ie, sudden death, would, let's be real about this, leave our loved ones with a potential complete nightmare on their hands.
The grieving process would be hard enough for them, but add to that all our hobby related stuff that they'd somehow have to sort out too, and it could quickly become overwhelming and seemingly impossible for them to endure.
This thread isn't really aimed at hobbyists who just have maybe a small single tank where maybe the widow/widower has picked up knowledge from us and can manage the tank in our absence. No, this thread is aimed at hobbyists who have multi hundred/thousand gallon set ups/fish rooms and where their families have no real interest/knowledge of how to do the first hobby related thing.
We all try to put measures in place for short term absences until we return, and we all know what a nightmare those cases can turn into, but has anyone actually put any contingency plans in place should we unexpectedly die!! It doesn't bear thinking about really but as morbid as it may seem it's obviously a very real potential problem, and one which we shouldn't just brush under the carpet, for the sake of our loved ones, not to mention the safety of our fish!
I'm sort of covered. I've simply told my wife to ring my LFS and the guys will come to my house and take everything free of charge, totally clear everything fish related out for her.
It gives me peace of mind knowing that should one innocent bike ride turn into the last thing I ever do, at least I've got something in place which would help ease her impossible burden.
The idea behind this thread is to simply get you guys to at least think about what you'd do. If it leads to a few of you having "the" conversation with your loved ones or LFS, then the threads been worthwhile.
