There is something very wrong with my lungfish, he started to become sick few weeks after i got him, i've looked all over the internet for the desease but have found nothing that looks like it :/ ...I think he is really sick and will probably die but im still hopeing...I've put salt in the water, change to water regularly altough i did that even when he wasnt sick ofc. it began as just a little lump and then grew and grew and grew ...and it seems now there are some little spots growing all over, but i dont think its whitespots, and the 2 lines in the side of the body I thought might been fungus so i got some fungus medicen, and it almost disapeared but not completely

Im hopeing i can get some answers ...So here is a picture. :)

i'm very sorry to hear about your lungfish, hopefully he can be saved, so don't give up hope just yet!
does the fish have any tankmates? what size tank is he in, how regularly do you do water changes, and how much water do you change? what is the temp in the tank?

i have not seen anything like this on a lungfish before, but it seems to have the similarity to some types of bacterial infections. how long have you been doing the salt treatment?

i would suggest doing a 50% water change every day or every other day and see if things improve at all. also raise the temp to about 82-83F. add 1 tbsp of salt per 20 gallons of water in the tank. some of this is relative to the size of the tank, so please let us know that info.

if there isn't any improvement in a week or so (or even several days) we can consider broad spectrum antibios like tetracycline...but these aren't great to use on some of the primitive fishes, and should only really be considered if the other simpler methods don't work.

keep us posted, and i hope your lungfish is able to recover--

He has no tank mates, he's about 35cm long in a 10g tank, just a temporary tank ofc, i have been changing the water once 50% every week, the water temp is 24 degrees Celslius, and been putting salt in for 2 weeks now :/.
We have the celsius system here in Iceland so if you could tell me what 82-83F is in C° that would be great...and excuse my english but what does "broad spectrum antibois like tretracycline" mean

and thank you so much for the response.

Even though the 10 gallon tank is temporary, that's quite a bioload for such a small tank. I would reccomend doing large water changes daily or every other day. 82-83F is about 28C ;). Good luck!

thanks for the conversion cookiemonster :)

i agree definitely. that tank is too small for the fish if that is it's regular housing right now...a lungfish that size should at least be in a 20g...small tanks will lead to lower water quality faster, and if the fish is already sick, it will greatly compound matters.

if it's in the 10g tank as a hospital tank, that's fine. either way, with that size tank, i would highly suggest DAILY water changes of 50%-70%. make sure the temp going into the tank is the same as that of the tank.

hopefully with massively frequent water changes we'll see some improvement. again with the small tank, i would only do about 2tbsp for the whole tank and go on from there. what concentration of salt have you been using?--

Im extreamly sorry but i was misinformed about how many gallons it is...it's actually 47g (180l) so thats alot better i guess :) ...and i havent used much salt...like 3 tbsp i think.

If i were you i'd ask at my lps, if they are knowledgable...if not i'd try taking him to the vet..a bit pricey i know, and not what they are used to seeing, but they have access to alot more information than we do, and medications that might help.. i hope he gets better... also for a 46g i'd add a couple more teaspoons of salt and it the treatment you were using earlier was helping i'd get back to using that... it does look like an infection to me too..

I'm not sure i can take him to the vet, vet's here know awfully little about fish :/...but ill give it a try, money dosnt matter to me, I spent alot of money on this tank and the fish it self and i will ofc spend more money on him if that's what i need to do to save the poor guy.

There is no improvement, he's just the same, and yeah...There is a fish desease specialist who is gonna take a look at him...the thing's i do for this fish :P
