my flowerhorn has not been well for the last couple of weeks and I don't know whats wrong with it.

These are reasons why i think it is ill...
  • not its usual aggressive self
  • white stringy poo always hanging out its anus
  • it keeps spitting out food
  • its colours look faded

All other fish are very healthy and tank parameters good.

hopefully someone can help!

It's probably either an intestinal parasite or a bacterial infection. I'd hit it with Prazi-Pro first, since it's more likely to be a parasite and that med is gentler than an antibiotic.

iv just noticed it flicking on the substrate. I treated for whitespot using salt and heat a month ago and have not added anything since...there are no spots on any of the fish.

anyone know if the salt and heat method would work for intestinal parasites?

tank temp is currently 80F...is this suitable for flowerhorn?

raise up your ph lvl is all i can think of right now.

pH is 7.5

I dont see how raising it would do anything except kill everything

can you explain how this can help? thanks

The guy who told you to change your pH has no idea what he's talking about.

Your fish has an internal parasite. Keep the tank at 80*, dose with salt, and treat with metro or prazipro for a week. Keep up on your water changes until the stringy poop stops.

yeh i thought it was a load of nonsense too wanted to see how he'd justify it raising ph.

iv had a look online for prazipro but cant find it here in the UK. I'l find an alternative.

I'll also raise the temp and add salt to 0.3%, I've found this very effective for treating whitespot (better than any remedy and a lot cheaper too)

Would an internal parasite also cause flicking against the substrate...i thought that could be due to flukes (i hope not but its a possibility)

I might also add to the list of symptoms...
  • Kok (nauchal hump) significantly reduced
  • vertical stress bars

Purchased this http://www.wormerplus.co.uk/ today.

Returned home, did water change, removed carbon (needed throwing out anyway), raised temp to 31C.

Seems like a good product it treats loads of different parasites, both internal and external, and treatment for 4 days. Relatively cheap too considering it treats 400 UK gallons Hopefully it actually works!!

I'll update on any progress, or lack of:popcorn:
