Something wrong with my Lima Shovelnose?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's normal :)
No need to be scared. Limas do that once a week if they don't feel good and like twice a month if they are allright :) Atleast thats what I've heard, correct me if I'm wrong, what I know though is that your lima is fully normal

Normal.. it hapens with Lima's ( don't know whether it is slime coat or something they vomit, but no problem...

I have never seen my lima do that before...I know its usually stress induced and happens after major water changes...I guess that means I really pamper my little guy because he is as calm and healthy as ever...he likes bloodworms alot...

It's normal. Mine does it all the time.
He is in a 265 with a 2gph drip system and never is bothered, so I seriously doubt it's caused by stress.
I'm not sure why they do it but they slime tanks up on a regular basis:)

i used to have one n he did the same thing it was pretty annoying....btw lima's suck...mine ate a ton of my fish n i hated him =]

Maybe you should have chose your tank mates a little more wisely rather then hating on a species because of their natural instint.... Yes they will eat anything that can fit in their large mouths, so you must house them with LARGE fish:screwy:
And yes your fish is shedding it's slime coat, it's fairly normal especially for limas.... sometimes they do this when stressed or when getting used to new water conditions... good luck, feed him well and watch him grow

Yes totally normal. Let them eat it too. It's how they reasorb vital nutrients. My big boys love to fight over slime coat when it's slime time they do it all together. My wife baby sits, and little kids scare the heck outta my limas so they shed then, or when there's no little ones about once or twice per month, but hard to catch them cause they eat it haha. Some of my favorite fish, so much character.
