After doing a water change today... I noticed a curling in my Motoro Ray... She was doing fine yesterday and this morning.... I got scared and thought the water temperatures were off.... I checked everything... everything was fine.... then when i checked my water parameters I had a reading of .5 ammonia and over 60 Nitrates.... I didnt understand what went wrong... But then 3 of my baby green terrors in another tank started to turn upside down.... a few hours later... Same problem.

After i checked my tap water... My tap water read 1 ammonia and 80 Nitrates...
I shocked my fish and am pissed and upset at my town... and i did a water change in all my tanks..

Wow that's crazy. Never thought to check tap before wc

I've had this happen too, its infuriating considering everything else you have is on point, only for the water company to endanger your stock.

My water isnt normally like this.. nor do i know how long this will last... or what i should do... all i could do was overdose on prime and safe.... Does anyone know how to counter this?

I think you should call the water provider, and see if there has been a serious accident.
I just googled the Monmouth water quality report, and their normal nitrate level is @ 1.5ppm, and the EPA maximum contaminant level is 10ppm. If our reading is accurate, there has been a serious violation, that has jeopardized the lives of any children under 2 years of age.

If the drinking water supply was actually at a nitrate level of 80ppm, the water dept would be in crisis mode, and there would be news reports warning people to not let anyone under 2 drink the water.
Not saying there is nothing wrong with your water, there may be a cross connection, or localized leak in the pipe. Your water supplier may not be aware, and need to be warned to correct the problem.

So came back to find my entire 55 gallon tank decimated by the water. Rechecked tap and it's back to normal... Lost 3 fh and a lapradae and andli
