My African Knife, I noticed he had a light shading in the skin on a small portion of his skin. Didn't look like it was too big of a deal. Now that shaded part has seem to come off, and I'm trying to figure out what I should do for him. Look like he is *shedding?* Moved him into a quarentine tank, but it doesn't look good. Pics below, any ideas what is wrong?
Any thoughts are appreciated.

I had a smaller tank in the past when I kept "fancy" goldfish (lol) and they would get something similar that my LFS told me was called "velvet".

I think it is a bacterial infection that is associated with stress...

You might be able to treat it with a bacteria med, but as I know you know... you would have to use half dose cause of the "softskin" or "scaleless"

I could be wrong, but it something to look into. Good luck, I hope he gets better.

Hmm... trying to figure out why he may have been stressed... haven't had anything happen in the tank lately that would stress him.
Anyway, some sites made it look like it is Velvet and others didn't, lol. Hopefully I can get a few more opinions on what it may be if not Velvet. He seems to be doing slightly better, seems how when he was put into the quarantine tank he would lye on the bottom of the tank... Any ideas would I should start treating him with? I also have four other fish in the tank being treated for ich. Bad start to the week.:irked:

There are a couple that are similar to ich and velvet, But are categorized under a fungus. He might just have a serious case of velvet as well, My gold fish would seem to "Peel" just like you are saying above. It might look different on scaless fish, compared to most pics which are of the fungi or bacteria on scaled fish.

I looked around on the net to find a similar looking image, and nothing was very helpful.

If I find anything, I will let you know. I hope he heals up.

My tiger knife gets like that from time to time. I think it's either stress or water quality, but not necessary bad water quality.

I just do 50% wc and the slim will go away. If the problem persist just do another 50% wc.

What are your water parameters? Water change schedule? What have you been feeding him? Temp?

I'd have to check the water parameters, but I just did a water change three days ago, about 25%. Lately I've been doing a 25% water change once a week. He is being fed bloodworms and flakes.
Now that he is in a completely different tank, new water, etc. (Quarantine tank) should I just do 50% WC to the that tank? (It is a 10-Gallon)
