Anyone know what this could be... His apatite is fine. He just has these white bumps... one on his tail and a few sprouting from his body...

is the gar new? One of mine had this, too, when I got it. I forgot what the guy at the LFS told me what it was. He said it is like the fish version of herpes. He told me that it would improve with the new home because of improved water quality. It did, and after like 2 weeks, it was gone and I haven't seen it again.

This seems to be popping up in a number of Florida gars recently and has been roughly ID'd as lymphocystis (This ID is not 100% as I nor any others I know have had the chance to examine this personally..It does however fit the illness and looks right from previously examined and diagnosed cases).

lymphocystis is a viral illness that not much can be done about except to let it run it's coarse. A suggestion would be to raise the temp to around 80 and carry out weekly 30% to 40 % water changes. It should just go away after a bit but may show again if the fish is stressed again.

I've had this guy for about 5 months... About three months ago; he must have gotten spooked, and he found the one spot on the top of the tank that’s open.
He was found in the morn, the tip of his nose was disfigured, and his coat was tacky. Soon after placing him back in the tank he began to gingerly make his way about the tank. "Very fortunate" He didn’t eat anything for about two weeks after the experience.
Now that his nose is all healed, he eats everything. That’s when the white spots started showing/growing. The stress factor makes perfect sense.
