something's up with my aro's fins?? plz help!

ok. about 2 weeks after buying a silver arowanna (i think ts a silver ) i added a small gar to the tank. since then his tail has frayed and no matter hom much melifix i put in the tank his fins keep getting worse. i really dont want to cut his tail like ive been told by people to do. plz help! im flippin out

So how would your aro's fins ever heal if they are constantly being shredded by other fish in the tank?

i have nowhere else to put the gar or red teror. so im going to a flea market today to get a bigger tank to put the aro in alone. hope i find one i dont want to lose him he is a butiful fish. if worst comes to worst ill give him to someone who has a bigger tank with no fish.
