I was at a LFS the other day and my eye was instantly drawn towards an arowana fry housed with a black ghost knife.
I've been enchanted by arowanas ever since I saw my first one. I stood there a while watching what I've described in the past as a piece of lace swimming around the LFS tank.
Arowanas don't come in often in my neck of the woods as this is the third one I've seen locally and I'm glad because too many seem to end up in 55 gal tanks.

So I got to thinking, too bad there isn't a mini arowana for though of us who don't have the tank space to house the adult awowanas. Even one that only grew up to 1' would be nice.
I know there's the freshwater butterfly fish that seems to get as close to a mini arowana as can be found, they still look quite different though.

yup arapaima size huh

I'm glad there's not a mini arowana. Its like wishing for a cheap ferrari or a chairlift to the top of mt everest.

I don't think it would make much of a difference anyway, there's plenty of smaller sized central american cichlids with plenty of attitude suitable for smaller tanks, but that doesn't stop people buying dovii or umbee even though they're not going to be able to house them properly long-term. Even if there was an aro that only grew to 12" there would still be countless wanna-be-MFKers who would buy silvers for their 125g tanks...
