hey,
i have a 8" very fat srtipped rapheal cat , today i noticed a weird almost peeling on his head, i tried to get a pic but you cant see it at all . its almost like its shedding. is this ok? should i do anything to treat it... water conditions are perfect, so i really dont know wat it could be.any ideas?

i would just add 1 tbsp of salt per 5 gal and increase the heat a few degrees. some people may recomend meds?

oddly enough i have one of mine do the same thing. i pulled it outta my old roommates disgrace of a tank and when i put it in mine it had a belt all the way around his body covering his dorsal fin. it ended up making all of his skin and the fin fall off in that belt but now he's fine and the fin grew back. weird. i have no idea what the crap was goin on there.

Could it be a burn from your heater? Both my rapheals got heater burns, seems that they would wedge themselves between heater and glass. I guess with there thick armor type skin they could notfeel untill the damage was done. Anyway I just moved them to a hospital tank and treated with melafix. They came out OK.

def not a burn...mine had a defined stripe all the way around it's body like a perfect belt.some sort of parasite maybe

yeah i already put salt in my tank, more like 1tbs per 10gso ill up that a little ill try runnin the heat @ like 80deg. and we'l see what happens. i dont think its a burn either just because of the way it it on its body.i feed earthworms, krill, and some sinking carnivore wafers. maby he picked up a parasite from the worms...you think? ill try the salt/temp and give it a week. thanks for the help guys!:headbang2
