my 6 inch Escondido is now the b**** fish in his tank
he is in there with 4 giant danios about 2inch and a 2inch plec
he hides in the corner and runs away when the others come near him
what a sook
any thoughts?
anyway to overcome it or will he snap out of it eventually??
its really annoying to have such a nice fish that wont come out and play

haha oh my bad sook is like a term for wimp afraid things etc i dunno hard to explain always used the word since i was born

lol must be an ozzie word

maybe try a similar fish to his size in with him or a convict. MAKE him harden the F up!
Whose needs are more important to you? Yours or the fishes?

First thing is to check the water parameters? Are you sure there isn't something else stressing him out? How big is the tank?

Lower lights often reduce fish stress. Try shutting your tank lights off for 3 or 4 days?

Giant danios are one of the fastest swimming dither fish out there. You may want to consider a slower species to put in there with him instead, perhaps a tetra variety to keep with the S. American theme.

Those are good words. You could also try luring him out with timed, regular feedings.

My biggest Escondido (5-6") lives with a Flowerhorn so he hides, too :-) But seriously-they're not outgoing fish as a rule. Probably every once in awhile someone has one that will beg like an Oscar or Convict but I doubt it's very often, I've never seen one like that. I had hoped to be able to set mine up as a center piece fish but he's just way too shy. The runt of that group is the same way.

Mine was pretty out going. I've never heard as a rule they were shy? What are you basing that off of?
