Ok so me and my best friend want to start breeding EBJD's not only because they look incredible, but because we were looking to try and sell them and make a bit of money so we can get the fish we reallllly want....

I have read that the best combo is to have an EBJD (male) and a blue gene JD (female)...ok first question...Where do i find a Blue gene JD female? would it just be from the fry of an ebjd male?? Second-What is a reliable source to buy a good daddy ebjd from, and a good bgjd female from...so i dont get them with beaks??

Onto tank size- i currently have a 20 and a 30 gallon..would the thirty be at least sufficient..?? i know its not ideal, but until i got enough money to buy a bigger tank--125---would it be sufficient enough to start?

I'll take any info/advice/comments/criticisms/good luck wishes anything will help

Thanks guys -Jrob

Think it over, you probably wont make any money. Its been nearly a year and im only as far as Blue gene fry... all 2 of them. Ive had them breed in a 30gal, so its quite possible.

ebjd/jd = bgjd
bjjd/ebjd = 50% ebjd

It will be a long time and quite some cash before you get far enough to actually sale anything.

i would buy 1 ebjd male and female from to completly different breeders on this site and i would breed them for 100% ebjd fry

i have read that, that is quite hard to do because the fry are most likely going to die?

time isn't really the issue, im more concerned about having fun while doing it...and the end result being able to sell a quality fish

they are bj jds, no ebjds.

the rest dies were eaten..... natural selection.

hahahaha natural selection...so as a bgjd...they look the exact same as a JD...they just have the gene..correct? like moms with blue eyes, dads with brown eyes..kid has brown...they still have the blue gene its just recessive..??

so breeding blue gene male, and blue gene female...even if neither are ebjd, you could still get one ?? in theory?

ebjds are a pain in the ass to grow out, once they are big they are fun but getting them there is no fun at all.

If you want to do it right.

- set up 2/3 tanks
- buy a bunch of ebjds and grow them out, hopefully some survive.
- get your hands on a wild caught female JD.
- breed jd/ebjd
- grow out fry (bg jd)
- breed bgjd to another ebjd.
= some ebjds
