ok so my lfs just got in some "gold tiger datnoid", im assuming their IT, anyways their goin for $12 a piece, my question is how many can i get in a 60g growout tank until they get big enough to hang in my 175g? i really want to get 2 or 3. havent seen them yet but assumin 1" and smaller, so can i starve them to get them onto pellets? how long can i starve them? also do they need hidin spots or can i jsut dump them into a bb tank? if there is only 2 left, can i have 2 dats together? also i no dats have big mouths, but how big r we talkin? r i mean can they eat other fish half their size? 1/3 their size? b/c i have some 3/4"clown loaches. any other tips welcomed. o yeah, any tips in terms of pickin out a dat? i no im suppose to aim for the dats that r "stable" n eyes shouldnt be really big or poppin out right?

in a 60G growout? Umm 2 years maybe haha.. they grow slow. 2 is fine as long as its not NGT species. Don't starve them yet.. they are too small. Train em after they get some size on them. A 1" dat will not be able to eat a 3/4" clown loach.

"Stable" is ideal, but not is not bad... you can make them stable usually.

ok, so the lfs guy told me hes been feeding them frozen brine shrimp n flakes, so should i not starve them. no joke these guys r like size of a penny, i mean these guy r like guppy size literally. all stable. got 5x of them for $48, $58 if u count the 80 miles I had to drive and the $10 in gas. totally worth it. so to starve or not to starve? i hear ur suppose to start early. i want them on hikari pellets. here r pics of my new kids (indo im assuming):

also the lfs told me to put in ocean salt, 1 tablespoon per 10 gallons, so i did. my question is can i eventually wean them off and in total freshwater? also the lfs guy told me 1 tablespoon salt per 10 gallons is good for all fish, true? b/c i have some clown loaches n polypterus.

if ocean salt is sea salt... then u DO NOT need it for indo tigers.. only NGT and AT are brackish water fish

Don't starve them. They're too small for that. Keep feeding them the stuff they've been eating before, but every day, try to mix in a little bit of a new food for them. That should get them to try new food.

Use API Aquarium Salt instead. I think it's cheaper and easier to find. You can get it at any decent LFS, hell even Petco has it.

He told you to put salt in because dats that size are easily susceptible to disease and parasites. So you should also turn up the temp to 85 and try not to feed live food. If you want to be extra safe, buy a UV sterilizer.

They don't need salt forever so when they get bigger, you can just take the salt out with water changes. If you've got AT datnoids though, they might need brackish water to be healthier.

Yup...those are ITs. No need for sea salt. Aquarium Salt is what you need and as mentioned, you don't need to have it in there all the time. It's just as a prevention against parasites and disease. Also raise the temperature to 84F-86F. I wouldn't try to starve them at that size. Try to get them on a variety of foods. Frozen Bloodworms will work great. Eventually start mixing in pellets. They won't go for them right away, so make sure you're cleaning up what they don't eat.
