Sunday I got some rocks from home depot to put in my tank. The rocks were FlagStone I put them in my tank and last night my Jag started acting funny like if he had nitrite or ammonia poisoning so i had the water checked and it was perfectly fine. Then this morning I woke up and my Jag was dead:cry:. And my FM was acting weird too. So I took out the fish and put them in a separate tank. I also did a 50% water change and took the rocks out. My question is do you think it was the Flagstones that dissovled some sort of mineral into the water that couldnt be deteced by the Water Test. And when would it be safe to put the fish back in my tank if it was the flagstone that caused it.

Thanks:)

No I dont think so but you need to pressure wash you're rocks before they enter the tank, and if you don't have a pressure sprayer go to the car wash to do it. Could have had some pesticide on it or just coinsidence. GL

Sounds like it's been treated and/or contaminated with something.

Be sure to either use a Gurney (pressurized water sprayer), or absolutely scrub the hell out of them under scalding water. I use river rocks that have been scalded, scrubbed, gurnied and boild.

Sad news though dude, hopefully your FM pulls through. Keep us updated please.

You never know what kind of chemicals they treat that kind of rock with. Its probably some kind of weather proofing chemical or the like. That sucks man, sorry.

Sorry dude that sucks... You should always soak that stuff for a few days before putting it in the tank. Esp stuff from home depot......

Alright my FM and my GT are fine now. Ive been doing water cahnges and im probably gonna put the fish back in tonight.

Was it natural flagstone or some man-made stuff?

yeah, might be somethign up with that. cause i dont think ive seen any real natural stone at my local home depots, besides the gravel they sell in bags. everything else is artificial rock which could have some harmful stuff in it...
