I am trying to get soot staining out of 2 aquariums I salvaged when my house burned down. While I have cleaned off all the soot on the tanks, they have now got a light brown tint "in" the acrylic. It does not look too deep.

Any recommendations? Do you think I will need to sand them down and repolish?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

John

i work for a fire restoration company, the only way to get the 'brown' tint of the plastic it to remove the damaged layer. You can do this fairly easily, just treat the tank as if its scrathched to hell sand the tank and polish it back up to its former glory. The only thing i would be woried about is if the heat has damaged the bond between the acrillic.
