Sooty Grunter

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They are very hardy fish, but are probaly one of the most aggressive species of all the grunters.

A small one in a lfs had totally dominated and shredded the fins of two barra triple his size in the same tank. I was waving my fingers at another specimen of about 12 inches, it came up smashed aquarium lid, breaking it (while having a go at my fingers).

They are badass...

They destroy everything LOL.

mine is in by himself. hes gone thru a fair few fish. two red devil, sleepy cod, oscar, silver perch, firemouth, murray cod and electric blue. and he was the smaller than all the stuff he's killed :( ive given up on tankmates. anyone got any ideas?

The only success I've seen with them living with other species has been in large public aquariums, where they were housed in schools and they squabbled amongst themselves.

They were mainly housed with large barra and salmon tail catfish.
