One month ago, I was on a fantastic collecting trip in Uruguay, we spent one day on the river in Salto Dorado fishing, the water was WAAAY down in the river and the fishing was slow, but, we managed to catch a couple anyhow. I got a 12 pounder and my friend Chelsea got a 2-3 pounder (we didn't weigh that one). The next day we were at some ponds and we nabbed a couple more tiny ones along with some Piranha. Have a look at the pics and please feel free to comment.

Thanks for looking,

low water should mean good fishing

great pictures, the first pic that dorado looks like a beast!

It should, but, the big Dorado like deep/fast water. The guide was surprised that we got one as big as we did!

Thanks! we did bring back lots of Gymno's, Pikes, catfish, some tetras (including hoplias) and livebearers. I wanted some Dorado, but, the season for them to leave Uruguay was closed when we were there, have to go back in November/December to be on the real good fishing and be able to bring some Dorado home.

That is great, must've been an adventure. What kind of hoplias did you bring back?

It really was an adventure! We managed to bring back some Lacerdae and some undescribed ones that were refered to as Malabaricus - it was easier to get big ones than smaller (small enough to ship) ones!

I would recommend to anyone a trip like we took!
