Sore on GoldFish

So I have a goldfish tank set up for my wife, her biggest goldfish is an 4-5" Oranda, it has started getting a red sore on what looks like the inside of its nuchal (sp?) hump.

Any ideas as to what it could be?

Its in a 55g with an Fx5. Tank is cycled and parameters are fine.

What are your water parameters? Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, ph? What is your maintance schedule including water change schedule and filter maintence? If you can answer these questions we will try to diagnose this problem.

0,0,>20, about 6-6.5

They get about 50% water changes 2x a week.

The water sounds fine. Add aquarium salt at one tablespoon per 5 gallons of water and treat with Metronidazole. Do a large water change and remove any carbon from the filter during treatment. Follow dosing instrustions on the package. HTH.

Yeah I have been doing a same treatment, I was just wondering if any one knew what exactly the sore was.
