Hello to everyone here at MFK! I am new to joining up, but not new to the site as I've been on here before to read some postings here and there.
My name is Suz, and I've had "monster fish" in the past. I used to be a very dedicated puffer fish hobbyist and had both an Mbu and a Fahaka, both of which can get quite large. I no longer have those puffers, only smaller ones now.

But I did recently acquire a fish that I've never owned before .... Channa pulchra, or Spotted Snakehead I believe it's called. I was going to get the Rainbow snakehead, but decided on this other instead. I was amazed at just how much of a predator this young lad is. He's just less than 3" in length and when I put him in a tank that had some smaller Bristlenose, the snakehead was right on them, following them and looking like he might enjoy eating one. I quickly moved the snakehead to another tank that hasn't any other fish in it. I can't wait to watch this little guy grow, from what I've been told, they grow quite quickly. If anyone has any experience with this type of fish, I would love to hear your input, or any advice or suggestions, much appreciated.

I shall also soon be getting a Senegal birchir, something my husband has always wanted. The one we're getting is an Albino, so I think that will give it an even stranger look, but definitely looking forward to getting to know both the birchir and the snakehead and their predatory ways. I'd be interested to hear how people feel about feeding live foods. Being a puffer keeper, I've had to feed my puffers live food, but then there's no blood, no bits and no mess, so it's not that bad. I'm not sure how I'd feel seeing these two new predators biting pieces out of fish and leaving the fish to thrash about half-alive. I actually seen on YouTube where someone feeds a live mouse to a snakehead. I cannot watch things like that and find it very upsetting, mainly because I don't think a mouse is something a snakehead would eat under normal natural conditions.

But there I go, babbling just a bit too much. Whilst I'm at it, I suppose I should quickly tell about my other tanks. I have 16 tanks in all. Three tanks are to keep my crayfish in. Two tanks are crab tanks, Devil crabs and red Thai crabs. Two tanks are red shrimp tanks. One large tank is my community tank with a little bit of everything in it, and the remainder of the tanks I have are puffer fish tanks.
And that's a bit about me and my critters .... oh yeah, got 4 dogs too!!!
:naughty:

Yes buying a fish soley to watch it eat is a waste of time and money

They actually say piranha second to goldfish are the most inhumanly treated fish in the hobby.
