i dont know if everyone is as fussy as me but if there is something just not right with the tank i hate it

well the jewel background is great unless your rays start to chew it
i only have one ray that does it but in the last year she has made a bad mess of one of the weir coverings which you can see in this pic

remember the background is 2inch think and she chewed it down to the black glass

i love doing stuff to my tank in the summer as its like having the tank in the garden with all the doors open

the hardest bit was finding someone willing to get in the tank to cut the old bit out and fix the new bits in drink helps most people in the tank as it stands 6.6ft from the ground and no chance of draining and filling again

the background also floats like mad which wasnt a problem with the smaller bit but the larger bit was like pushing a swimming float under

anyways its sorted lets hope the rays dont pull it off in the 36 hours the underwater silacon takes to dry

Nice job in patching, I've had rays bite at different things in my tank also. Does your backgroud allow for water and debris to collect behind it? What type of silcone did you use?
I used the orca brand before but didn't have alot of luck with it as my tank flexes some while backwashing the pool sand filter in it and the orca brand is very rigid when dry.

nothing can get behind it as all 3 sides and the weirs are covered so just the front has nothing on it

not sure which silacon i used gold seal black but cant remeber the make

the big bit i had to put a bucket full of rock in to hold it in place or the rays can move single rocks of any size as i had some big rocks in my old tank and i herd a scrapping sound but couldnt work out what it was then found it was them moving the big rocks

much safer without rocks

the jewel poly background is great as it also insulates the tank

Found the sealant you used on line and it's very readily available in the UK but not really available in Canada. The ocra stuff I was using is a glue so that is probably why it's not working as good. I'll have to try and bring in some of the sealant you used.

It was recommended by someone else it's black and looks to work well I'm not going to pull at it to see how good it is

But the jewel background floats so bad it will shot up like a rocket if it's not fixed well

Try eBay that's were I look If I can't find anything local

Nice bit of tiling!
I didnt realise Your pal had to stand in the tank... 😁😁😁 I thought he did it leaning over...

Did he wear waders in case the rays stung him?

no wadders he came around in shorts the other day so i said as you have them on i have a little job for you

the rays moved to the back and the other end of the tank only the aro was brave a swam in and out of his legs

I have had quite a few excited stingrays swimming in and out of my legs in a lagoon in antigua, their stings were over 5 inches long but we didn't get stung! They have to want to sting you, there are no accidents!

i swam with rays at discovery cove in florida they come up to you but not bothered at all i dont think FW rays are as brave as salt water types
