as you may know i have problems with my ph getting lower changing from 7.0 to 6.0 within 1 week as it has no buffering ability and was advised to get some crushed coral.
anyway i managed to get 1kg of crushed shell like stuff from my lfs.
will 1 kg be enough or too much i have added it to one of the trays in my external in 2 nylon sacks just incase i need to remove one all i removed was some sponge i even added some more media with it.
what do you think as i have no clue when it comes to ph i have never had any problems with it in al the years i have been keeping fish.
thanks.

I always thought the shells would bring the ph closer to the 8 mark? Huh. I had a problem with my ph dropping only when I used an R/O.

Crushed coral / oyster shell will stabilise the pH to around 7.6, 1kg will do fine, it will dissolve enough to keep the pH stable and time will tell how often you have to change it.
Stable pH is way more desirable than it ramping up and down.

I think you should post another pic of your tank Dixon :)

i forgot to add the tank is a 6x2x2 180g.
i did a water change today of 40% which put my ph to 6.8 and i tested it tonight and it is 6.8.
i will update tomorrow.
and steve i will get my new tank pic up shortly

well its still 7.0 and the fish are looking and acting much better which pleases me no end.
thanks for the info (see previous thread) it seems to be sorted now although i will still check everyday for the next couple of weeks
