i want to get a sorubim lima, also known as lima shovenose catfish for my 240 gallon tank. when my tank is fully cycled i will transfer my 5-6 inch silver aro, 4 inch senegal, 4 inch lapradei, 7-8 inch retro bichirs from my 60 gallon into my 240 gallon. i have seen that limas can be keept in tanks because they grow at a slow rate. i am planning on picking up a 8 inch lima but will the lima try to eat my fish? how long does it take it to get a little bigger i also plan on getting a gar, and some fire eel.

what is the best thing to have the lima shovelnose eating? i saw tigirnus cats have problem digesting shirmp

Mine eats pellets, smelt, makeral, earthworms and shrimp. It also hunts down small cichlids.

I have a 15" lima in my 180 and he is great. It will eat most anything cichlid pellets market shrimp earthworms. Give the lima a shot im sure you'll love it 'great fish. They are only predatory to fish that will fit in it's mouth.

lol the lima shouldnt pick on the bichirs. i think if the lima has room like my 240 gallon he should mind his buisiness...

Forget the gar -gets too big for your tank and will damage your other fish at feeding time.
Get at least 2 Lima and try giving them a varied diet from day one , they tend to get fixed on a single food my oldest 18in only reliably takes prawn (shell on or off) and occasionally mussels and the newer one 14in (bought at about 11in) only takes pellets and algae wafers!
Not enough people keep this fish - for most it would be a better choice than tsn. :D

tsn's and rtc's are too crazy for me. i would keep one but once it getts about 8 inch it will try to eat everything lol, thats why i want some lima.

My lima has eaten a few small cichlids that picked on her. She leaves all the others alone that are small and leave her alone. She gorges on pellets for the most part, but enjoys the occasional shrimp or fillet. She's really a great fish, and very fun to watch.
