seems from looking threw the archives here, that many of you had some debates on the size that a lima shovelnose can get too. I have done countless hours of research on pims and I can say that several sources put them at 60-70cm max. For laymen that is about 20-28 inches. Just check out the Atlas of Freshwater and Marine Catfishes pg.249 says that 40cm is average. Don't know if that helps or fuels the debate. With that said, debates can be fun and educational, and ocassionaly violent. Go debates :headbang2

So what's the biggest everyone has seen a lima? I will have to say 35 cm/ 14", the guy had two and they where still growing according to him.

My friend had a lima that was nearly 50cm (20"). It was housed in a 125g with weekly water changes. The lima stayed at 8" for a while and suddenly did a growth spurt.

Woah, 90 cm.!!? That's big, any pics?

I hear anywhere from 12" to 20". i've seen a 16" one in a 200 gallon at a major fish store and they said they've had it for 8 years and that it was 16" in 3 years.

andri pogo has one in his 200 gallon, but i don't know how big it is...does anyone?

I would love to see mine hit the two foot mark. My original was around 5" when I bought it 1yr ago, it's now around 12". I purchased two more last march they were both about 4", now the one is pushing 10" and the other is around 9" I'd say. Although they've almost caught up in length, the oldest is quite a bit wider and more robust looking.

How big are yours getting to be now anyway?
